Any large piece of furniture could work well. Try a painted armoire for a traditional look. For a more modern dining room, a low modern table or cabinet with an interesting arrangement of candles/objects. Or try an oversized piece of art with downlighting to make it really stand out. If you include photos of the space we'll be better able to help you.

I see you already bought some pieces of art, you could put those up and add some small can lights to light the niche. But if you're looking for something more purposeful and dramatic, here are some ideas:
Make it into an art niche, with a large sculpture or piece of art -
Make it into a window seat nook -
Turn it into a built in bookcase -
Add shelves to display objects -

How do you want the niche to function: as extra seating, storage, display?

Airoom has some great suggestions for each. Any one of them would work. I'm partial to adding shelves for display (shown in the last idea) and painting the nook an accent color.

wow! thanks for your input! I really like the shelving idea as well! I was thinking about adding some lights to brighten it up a bit, as well, so hopefully, I get to do this as my spring project! Thanks for your help!! =) will post the end result!
