What kind of wood did you use for the stairs?

    The stair treads are solid maple planks to match the flooring in the living room above. The stringers below are from the original 50's house and I believe are made of fir.

    Yes, but they were pretty easy to get... Nothing too exotic.

    How are the treads attached to the stringers? Are the stringers notched or is there some sort of hardware? Thank you in advance for your answer!

    The main stairs stringers are existing, we just replaced the treads. The stringers are not notched as the treads are attached with a custom steel bracket that was manufactured back in the 50s.
