I think you need some light down lower... I see an outlet on the right wall. Get a nice little lamp to sit on that side of the counter, maybe?

Replace the fixture with a long fixture that connects at the top so the illumination produced will be lower. The light need to be emitted from the fixture a face level or below to light our faces below our cheekbones. The LED light produced is way too cool... looks like about 3500K. Use the chart below to help you "see the light"!

That's a nice fixture, but the lights I have also project down. Yours takes a 100 watt bulb, but I can't find those for sale anymore! I'm not sure there would be much difference, except in the cool-warm quality of the light. I hate not being able to find bright warm incandescent bulbs.

I liked the suggestion from annpossis to replace the current fan with a fan/light combination. There are nice options from Panasonic and Broan that are actually a recessed can light with a fan. This is a very clean look in the ceiling.

With the reflections given off from the LED bulbs and lack of light, I would also consider replacing the light fixtures.

That would be a great idea, except the fan is on the upper wall over the toilet. I think I do need a ceiling light. Do you think the current lights will need to go? I guess I could try putting in the overhead light and then decide about the sconces. I like the look of sconces, though.

I agree with Clear Lighting & Electrical, around a bathroom vanity mirror, UP-lighting, or sconces with the light projecting upward toward the ceiling is always the ideal. If possible, just take your current sconces and turn them over, then bring them down about a foot. Replace the bulbs with softer LEDs, or even incandescent bulbs while they're still around, so the lighting will not be as harsh. ENJOY!
