Well, little did I know the amount of experience, tools, and patience needed to replace doors and hinges. We replaced 4 interior doors, got matching door handles, and matching hinges. All the door handles were at a different height and so the template doors we got we took right back because the holes were off. Luckily, dad decided to add a new tool to his collection, so he bought a router for the hinges. (yeh - i didn't think about that either when I had this grand idea about how the hinges get put on)

Also, be sure to thoroughly look at your hardware to make sure it matches. Although the Brinks door handles had the same UPC number and inventory number, 2 out of the 4 handles did NOT match. And this was noticed as the 2nd set were about to be put on at 10:30 on a Sunday night.

Luckily, family members were there to coach us thorough. And at some points, it was kind of frustrating because I am a visual learner and hearing the different techniques people used to make sure the door fit in the door frame was confusing.

My dad suggested using the shimmie things while the door was in place in the frame and then to trace the NEW hinges on the door for the router to cut. Then my cousin's husband literally clamped the old and new doors together and traced where the old hinge was but filled in where the new hinge would not cover.

Which reminds me, I had my first experience with wood FILL. I have yet to sand it since my final piece was not smooth, and I had my first experience in planing. That was fun and tough. I took a little much off the bathroom door, but I am glad I got the experience. I attempted the top of the bathroom door, but I could not get it to plane. So I planed the bathroom door to Backbstreet Boys and Nysnc as my cats, Rex and Racer, watched as I made a mess on the floor.

Still to be done is the closet door that needs to be planed on both top and bottom and then hung. I forget the measurements... gotta ask Kevin. And the 2nd bedroom door still needs to be planed- both need to be attached. And ALL doors need a little cardboard behind the hinge that is attached to the door frame. Also, the door need to be painted too. NOTHING IS straight, and being on a budget, we were trying to avoid any MAJOR renovations.
