i wouldn't do a semi flush light in that space, it will collect so much dust, and hang low, since the kitchen has a step up. I would get a 3 light fixture or track style. i wouldnt go white but, cream or off white, maybe pale green. put the semi flush you like in the picture in the dining area where that silver one is now. cover the back splash with bead board, it will be cost effective and go with the look.

The white cabinets will look great in the kitchen. The only thing I am thinking of is the white backsplash behind it. There may be too much light coloring going on there, so you will need something to contrast the color a bit. The Fasade decorative panels would look great. If you are looking for brushed nickel light fixtures, there are brushed nickel panels as well which would match nicely.

Painting the cabinets will definitely freshen up the kitchen. I'd add some new cabinet hardware too.

I do want to redo the back splash too. So if I do WHITE cabinets .. and a different light.. not sure on the light yet. So you think a flush mount? I attached a few samples of possible kitchen lights.

I would paint the cupboards white, it would totally lighten up the kitchen. And maybe even paint your cupboards too.

Hello, I think you will be very happy with painted white cabinets and new hardware on them. I painted my cottage pine cabinets a pale old green color and am very pleased with them as they really brightened up the kitchen. We used a product called Kiltz which is just a very strong primer that really allowed our top coat to stick. We did this at least 8 years ago and the cabinets still look great. I would't worry about the white being too much with your white backsplash as I sense that once you are happy with your light fresh cabinet look you will be inspired to change up your back splash down the line. As far as the light goes, I would be careful to keep it simple and low profile. You want to capture the height of the ceiling and not compete with the dinning room light fixture that is close by. My fist choice of the options you've given would be the first one you posted with the energy rating. It's clean looking, has a low-profile and doesn't compete for attention with your near-by dinning room fixture. Good Luck. It's going to be LOVELY!

I replaced a 3 light flourescent fixture with a four light halogen track fixture. It was awful, the illumination was not sufficient. The best lighting thing you can do is install undercabinet lighting. LED or flourescent depending on budget. And, yes, white or just off white cabinets.

I like track lighting because you can direct the light in several directions with one fixture.
It would also give you an updated look.

the 3 light circular one you had would work, also did you see the options i had suggested?

the three lights on one pan, would not hang any lower than the others you like. about 8-12 inches. yes i did photoshop them.
