I think the lamps are the problem. I like the bedsides they would be nice with a glaze on them

Hi ! I think also that yours tables lamps are a little bit smalls. I think you can put a long cushion behind the smalls bleu ones or two biggers than, in soft white and cream colors, like your bedside tables. Maybe look for two paintings or delicates pictures to complete your great room design.

I agree the lamps are too small. I would paint the beside tables a different color ..gray...yellow...something that isn't so matchy matchy. And definitely beef up the lamps. It's getting there. :)

I would paint the tables to match bed, then get lamps closer to height of headboard posts.

If the table colour bothers you then paint to match. It's good not to be so matchy-matchy.

Definitely need bigger table lamps. Some ideas:

we all agree the lamps are small for the set, also you could gain some room space getting rid of the big blue drapes that come 5 to 7 inches in the room. perhaps go with a 3 1/2 inch plantation shutter with an inside mount frame it will allow light and light control and flex up that tight space feel on the left side of the bed

Thank you very much for all your comments and suggestions. I will start shopping for bigger lamps and cushions behind the small blue ones. Should they be in gold/ grey to introduce more colours into the room, so that it is not too matchy matchy? When putting the room together to create a calm feel, I was sticking to duck egg blue, almond and white.

When buying the bed I didn't order the matching bedside tables to go with it, as they were not too practical, but later was worried that non-matching bedside tables will make the bedroom looks cheap according to some articles on the internet. You guys really gave me confidence to keep these tables!! The two bedside tables are actually equally position against the wall. Another picture taken from the left of the room is attached. The big blue drapes are the black out curtains. This room is east facing and really suffer from bright sun-shine in early hours, therefore I have a black out roller blind as well as curtains to address the light intensity.

I would stick with your original color scheme.

With gold in the wallpaper and the ceiling light, I think gold colored cushions would be perfect. Consider also adding two regular pillows covered in white shames or even a damask with blues/gold. Prop these against headboard, add you regular pillows in front (in white pillow cases), then add your new gold cushions to your blue. Purchase ones that are larger than the blue and even rolled shaped are interesting. Your wall on the right could use a venetian type mirror or perhaps a series of 3 simple prints in white frames. In regards to the lamps, as the side tables are matching, for some interest mix up what is on them. Keep one lamp and place it on a stack of 2 or 3 really nice "coffee table" type books to achieve more height at the same time and add a round silver antique clock. Do you need two lamps? Perhaps on the other side, place some home decorating magazines and a crystal vase filled with white silk hydrangea.

And another - she is right on. You don't want "matchy matchy" at all. Your result will be so much more interesting and personal . . and dare I say beautiful. Thank you, I will :) I'm appreciate the sugguestions. I have been shopping and found that the majorarity of the dressers are quite wide, but this one with dimensions W 60cm x D 34cm x H 76cm (attached image) should fit the space. I'm thinking probably I can replace the black handle with something white or clear glass.

The available space on the right of the bed is 75cm, and the current bedside table dimension is W 40cm x D 30cm x H 70cm.

Actually I was also looking for a mirrored one with dimensions W 75cm x D 46cm x H 92cm. I can imagine it looking stunning but I don't think I can get over my fear of seeing mirrors in the dark yet :(.....

There is also a blue dresser with dimension W 80cm x D 38cm x H 72cm, which should still fit if I move the bed a few centimetres to the left.

I agree that the lamps on the night stands are to small. (Chemayne again your are right).

The blue one would fit and looks great. You may have to tweak the color of the table on the left, with some blue highlights.

I was shopping for a swing arm lamp today for the left small table as suggested and found three choices :). As I was struggling to visualise the asymmetric look of the room, I have mocked it up with my limited skill. Is swing lamp a retro style thing? I am a bit worried that it will make the bedroom a less romantic place.

I also found a large lamp with bird design to go on top of the dresser.

I like the tables with the bed. Your lamps could be bigger or dress tables to create more balance. I love pillows so adding more pillows (think different textures, patterns) and bring another colour in will make the bed feel more luxurious.

By blue highlight on the table on the left, I mean that if you get the small blue chest to the right of the bed, you might want to give the table on the left a blue glaze or some faint brush strokes of blue with a "dry" brush to make it look like it belonged with the blue chest.

The kind of swing arm lamp that I meant for you to use to the left of the bed would be wall mounted. You can get them that plug in or you can wire them into the wall. If you use a plug in, it's good to get the kind that supplies a matching cord cover.

When you use a swing arm lamp over a small night stand it doesn't take up any space on the night stand. It also doesn't compete with the table lamp you might have on a bigger table on the other side of the bed.

I have swing arm lamps on my bedside and they are a pain.....always tipping or swinging the wrong way! Combined table and lamp height to top of shade should be 58-64 inches from floor. Measure and then decide how tall lamps should be for your tables. Tables should be 2 inches from side of bed. Looking good!
