What can I do with this room...clean slate?

The walls are desert tan, the floors are a medium brown and I'm ready to start adding furniture and accessories, rugs, lamps. Need some help. Tuscany house. Neutral taste. Drape colors tones picture. Cathedral ceilings. Love to lighten it up. Thanks!

that fireplace is beautiful. Some white fabric furniture like 2 big chairs would lighten up the room. Also some brass/silver or any meatllic accessory like a bucket right by the fireplace would look great too. (you can fill the bucket with logs).

i googled tuscan furniture..both Thomasville and DrexelHeritage have some wonderful pieces.

I fell in love with this Mediterranean inspired room on houzz. The light golden walls and neutral furnishings would look great in your space. Beautiful cathedral ceilings and windows by the way.

What a great room! It's interesting that it's Tuscany. There's a certain Art Deco quality to your fireplace. Is it a painted faux finish? If you're happy with the quality of the finish, you can definitely work around it.

Something to keep in mind - a fireplace should have a mantel shelf. It's a great place to showcase art or photos. I would go for something simple, probably in a dark finish - http://www.mantelsdirect.com/bedford.html.

As to your question - fireplace or furniture first: I always think about seating when it comes to space planning. Why don't you browse sofas and post your favorites. You can go from there.

Will there be a tv in here or is this a pure sitting room?

The fireplace is done in a Ralph Lauren Suede "sandpaper feel" paint on the top and some type of faux finish around the tiles. Previous homeowner spent $$$ so I was trying to keep the top portion and maybe stone or something the lower. It's the color of the lower/gold portion that I struggle with....very "gold" feeling.

YES, would love to have a mantel. Currently working with a contractor to find a way to do such without re-doing complete structure...there is a door opening to dining room beyond. Don't want to have mantel hanging off the side. Hoping to minimize cost toward fireplace issues. See below.

NO tv, just sitting room. More the "formal" living room feel.

check out the stone used in this fireplace - you could replace just the slate tiles with similar looking stone. that could bring everything in a warm color tone. Currently slate looks to be blue gray(cool color scheme) and the 3 trims are beautiful copper (gold looking i.e warm color scheme).

I can't figure out about adding mantel.
