In this specific application, we recommend 2 feet of clearance minimum on all sides. We have also experimented with other angles for the rope to hang at in order to limit the swing of the chair. For example, pulling the ceiling hooks away from the bed, achieves a similar look, but holds the swing to a limited radius. We have also connected the bottom side of the bed to the floor with a rope to give a hard restriction on how far the bed can swing. Great question!
