I think art above the bed is a good idea. I wouldn't go wider than the width of the bed. Maybe a mirror on the other wall? It would reflect the open windows...make it feel bigger.

In my opinion I think you need a headboard and two wall sconces for lighting in that area. It will finish the bed. You can DIY the headboard. This is a rustic version (for concept only) of what I was thinking but you can use any material. It can be very budget friendly. Second pic used an old door turned sideways and mounted to the wall. Third pic is a DIY fabric headboard in easy to make squares. Click through to see how to make it - or something similar. Fourth pic shows shutters...the possibilities are enormous. Use your imagination for something that highlights your area and is a 'found' object :)

Ha! Margo you read my mind. I said sconces but had a reading lamp in my head...lol

I suggest adding a headboard and a tiny shelf on each side for eyeglasses, cell phones and a glass of water. A light on each side would be welcome. Add extra set of bed pillows. Add curtains or window shades. Add a power strip for cell phone charging.
