Why not cloud white?

I used BM White Dove and I love it.

Hi Linda, I love the look of white dove and in your photos it looks like a soft white, but when I painted a tester on the cupboards it seems to look a bit yellow :(. I wonder if it has to do with our lighting, it's a bright kitchen with a lot of windows. Can I ask what you used as backsplash? Our counters look the same. Thanks for your suggestion!

Hi Patricia, can I use cloud white on the cupboards if all our trim and baseboards are cloud white?

We used the same white paint for our trim, doors, and kitchen cabinet (SW Snowbound), and we love how it all turned out. Our kitchen is open to the rest of the common rooms, and it makes all the rooms flow together. So, go for it!

You are very welcome. I relied very heavily on the Houzz community last year to complete my fabulous new grey and white dream kitchen. Nothing was harder than selecting the white pair for the cabinets. In the end, I chose BM white dove for the cabinets, Farrow and Ball super white super high gloss for my window/door and crown/baseboard trim. They work well together with my white glass appliances.

I have attached photo of my gray floor and back painted glass backsplash. My counter material is a Super white quartzite. You may be right about the yellow beneath the White Dove, but I think it works well to warm the grays. I have another, much cooler gray on my walls (BM Sterling over BM Wickham Gray - which was too blue alone for my lighting). I do use yellow accents, especially fresh lemons.

Hi nansdrew, what a beautiful kitchen. Did you use the same colour paint for the trim in the other rooms as well? Our kitchen leads into an open back room and then into the living room through a doorway on the other side. Thanks for your suggestion!

Thank you bmack45. Yes, we did use the same paint for the trim in all the rooms as well, except for the office, because I wanted the trim there to be black. We also used the same paint for the built-ins in the common rooms. Having the same color paint for the cabinets and trim simplified the color scheme a lot.

Hi again nansdrew, is this a microwave in your island? We are having difficulty deciding on a location for our microwave and have been considering placing it in the island (we have limited counter space). If you have the microwave in your island, do you have any problems with the location, in that it's lower than the counter? Thanks again for all of your help!

Yes, that is our microwave in the island. It was the best placement I could think of when I designed our kitchen, since I really wanted a double oven (I bake a lot). The location probably works better with a micro drawer, but we didn't want to spend the money for a micro drawer. It works great for us and our kids, but I understand that the ergonomics might not be for everyone.

Hi nansdrew, glad to hear that it's workable because it looks like in the end the island is the most practical place to put it. We also decided that cloud white is the route we're going to go with the cupboards. Go figure that white was the hardest colour to decide :). Now I have to decide on backsplash (ahhh! lol). Of course!

All counter tops are quartzite. The name that was on my slab is on the tag in attached photo. My contractor referred to the color as super white.

The backsplash material is Star Fire glass back painted with a gray BM paint selected to coordinate with the stone. I love it. I chose it over the stone because the stone was so beautiful and bold that I wanted it to remain a special feature. Also, I have two large, colorful pieces of framed art and other art objects (including my hanging lights, that I wanted to remain most prominent on the walls without competing with stone and grout lines. It's surprisingly easy to keep clean. Same price as my stone, though.

Thanks @lopipopi. We used Caesarstone Raven for the perimeter countertops (Misty Carrara for the island). The backsplash is mainly honed Carrara Venato 3x6" subway tiles with a smaller 1x2" mosaic subway of honed Carrara Bianco above the cooktop. Got all the marble from thebuilderdepot.com. At the time, they were less expensive than the fancy cut or glass tiles we liked.

Thanks to both of you for the info. Love yours too, Linda. Unfortunately my caveman husband can't wrap his head around the idea of gray being beautiful. In his mind white cabinets are sterile and gray anything is depressing. After a six month standoff I finally got him to "agree" to the white cabs but only with the provision that it is with black countertop.
I like the Carrara Venato backsplash that nansdrew used, but not sure how it would look with black instead of the Caesarstone Raven. I may have to give up on trying to incorporate marble or quartzite in the backsplash. Anyway, sorry to hijack the thread - I hope that Bren figured out her colour.

Linda, your kitchen is absolutely stunning. I was looking for pics of the CS Raven, and now I am completely in love with it! Yours is one of the prettiest kitchens I've seen.
