You could use the current rug as a jumping off point. Get a pillow for the chair in the lighter blue color. Same with the walls, a very light, airy, blue and then perhaps run a line of dark blue about 3/4 of the way up the wall just for something different.

Wall with desk is perfect. May want to have two metal lights (long arms that swing and are modern) on either end of desk (useful as well) to match a ceiling light (see picture). Fun to add grass wallpaper (in picture) on that wall and paint room a rich caramel or the blue below, adding a hemp rug. Wondering if a series of photos (brass, pewter or copper framed) may fill that other wall a bit better and move what you have to the wall by the window near the desk (if it fits) and lower for impact. The chair looks lost in the corner, I would add a square glass table next to it and behind perhaps a floor standing lamp. If you can reupholster chair, select a bold print in caramel/deep blue and orange.

Thank you for all the ideas. I like the idea of the grass wallpaper, but I was thinking it could be on the wall where the wall art is. There isn't room to move the wall art to another wall though. I wanted to keep the wall art on that wall. So what do you think that would look like? Just that wall with grass wallpaper and keeping the wall art? Thank you

What do you guys think of having a beige carpet? I really don't like the blue carpet and was hoping to find one that would match more.

Judging by the decor you have, it seems like you like very understated, neutral tones. Adding a beige carpet would be even more neutral. I do think that you need some kind of pattern, though, to be honest. It doesn't have to be fussy, or anything really bright, if that's not your style. Right now, as far as I can tell, the carpet is the only thing that has any pattern in the room. If you get a beige carpet, it should probably have some texture to it, like a sisal one. You could add the needed pattern if you bought a pillow for the chair that was still a neutral color, but had a nice pattern to it, like a beige background with a brown or black graphic of some kind. A grass wall covering would also add some visual interest
Another idea that would give the room some visual interest would be to get those trunks posted by Jetti. You could stack them by the chair on the side where the clock is, and they could serve as a side table.
There are many things you can do to stay with the neutral palette and still create that visual interest.

The art could certainly stay where it is and I think with seagrass wallpaper, the wall will seem more complete. Painting a color close to the wallpaper to create a serene feeling or select a really rich contrasting color for punch. The rug (see below for what I could see in your room...just my opinion) will bring the room together and be sure to bring its color into accessories. Good luck.
