The wall with the "planks" is really a reclaimed log cabin. The original log cabin was built in the 1820's and moved to this site, near Jasper, in the north Georgia mountains. The logs are 14" tall and about 5" wide. Its a bearing, or solid exterior wall.
The white area between the logs is called "chinking". Chinking is type of mortar used in traditional log home construction projects. There was a great Houzz.com article about this house and its construction, if you email at my office, Ill send you the links. Thanks!
