Shutters or no shutters?

We are building a house that will look like photo included. Should we leave off all shutters? If so, should our siding be darker? Our stone will look like photo.

No shutters - you can always add them later if you feel they are required. I would do siding and eaves and downspouts and window frames in a taupe color as opposed to white - but that's just me. Something to think about.

Shutters add so much to a house. By not adding shutters, your home will likely have a lower market value and won't have as much character. Obviously this is just my opinion, but I truly do think that it would be a mistake to pass on the shutters.

No inappropriately sized obviously fake shutters like that pictured. Leave them off for now to help cut expense, and you can add the better quality more realistic ones later if you think they are needed. I don't think they'll ever be needed though.

I would say no shutters, but yes go darker on the paint and make the white really pop!

Hi becpel! We are sad to see that there is not a lot of shutter love on this thread! We have to vote for shutters, are you surprised?

Shutters not only add character to your home but they also add charm. On this specific home, the shutters are not properly fitted for the windows, which is why they seem a bit off. Shutters should measure out to half the size of the window they are covering. They should be authentic and appear to cover the window if they were to close.

As far as the style goes, that depends on the look you are leaning towards. We have panels, louvers and board and batten style shutters, all custom made to your specifications. Since you could go any route with this home, any style would look great.

Please note that the shutters do not belong on every window of the home. We know this is not your home exactly, but the larger window directly in the middle on the first floor should not have shutters. The window on the porch could have them, even though it is a double window. The panels of the shutters would just have to be the full size of the window.
