Functionality

Hello, I had kitchen design ideas in my head for months before sketching them down. Once I did I couldn't imagine it any other way. Your kitchens layout is near exact to my sketch. Q. No.1: Do you find the kitchen layout functional and/or practical(please elaborate(likes))? Q. No.2: Would you change anything(please elaborate(dislikes)) ?

Every kitchen I design is based upon the needs and cooking style of the individual user. Some cook alone, some as a couple, some have very specific ways they like to cook and prepare meals. The kitchen in the image you like is broken into two stations, a food prep island with everything needed within reach and a second station for cleaning and storage. Two sinks make this work well. The food prep area is also a display area for the chef, an owner who enjoys cooking and wants to be in the middle of things while he is preparing meals for family and friends so it is totally open to the great room. Some folks would find this too exposed and want more visual screening between the living and entertaining areas and the dirty pots and pans in the kitchen. One way to afford this is to do a split level island where the front serving counter is raised to bar height thus blocking the range and the pots and pans that are on it. Hope you find this helpful. Best of luck with your kitchen design. Best advice I can give is to think about the process of preparing a meal, the way you would like it to be, not the way you've been used to because you have adapted over the years to a less desirable configuration. Good luck!
