We have two young children and would like to fence in the back and side yards of our property - for containment and some privacy (we are on the corner of a semi-busy street). Town regulations state that the side yard fence may only be 4 feet high; the rear yard fence may be 5 feet high. I've attached pictures of the front and side of the house, which was built in 1914.

Any suggestions on the type of fence to install? We were originally thinking to do a white picket fence w/a scalloped top on the side yard, to play off of the scallop of the red tile roof. And do a solid white wood fence on the rear yard for privacy. But my husband thinks a black aluminium fence with a spear top would be better, since the black will fade to the background; but then what type of fence would we use in the back? Aluminum gives no privacy, so we would look right into our rear neighbor's house. Either way, we will add bushes around the fence on the side yard for additional privacy.
