Thank you for your kind compliment. Yes, the groundcover at the front of the border is Ajuga reptans, commonly known as Carpet Bugle. I used a cultivar called 'Catlin's Giant'. It spreads by runners so it does have to be kept in check although it can work as a living mulch that covers quickly. In this instance, the property had a regular gardening crew so maintenance wasn't an issue. It was a large property so we usually relocated the trimmings elsewhere.The second story plant is Heliotrope with light lavender flowers. Being of tropical origin though, it is only hardy to about 30 degrees.
