Where do I buy the fuel? Do I have to replenish the fuel! How do I do that?

Hi Kay,

That is a great question.

This fireplace operates on bio ethanol, which can be found locally in most home goods stores, such as Lowes or Home Depot. There are also many online outlets, including ours, that offer bio ethanol shipped to your door (most don't charge for shipping).

The Maximum by Ignis, about which you've inquired, has six burners, each containing a reservoir. Simply fill each burner with the liquid ethanol to the fill line (we recommend using a funnel) and ignite with a long match or lighter. After the fuel is burned off, it may be refilled in the same manner, once cool (about 15 minutes after it's extinguished).

We've attached a picture of a burner so that you can get a better idea. (The one pictured is larger than those in the Maximum but better shows its makeup)

Can it be turned off early, or does it need to burn itself out?

Hi Janice,

It is extremely easy to extinguish each flame. The fireplace will come equipped with a tool that you use to pull the burners' lids closed. Once closed, oxygen flow is eliminated and the fire goes out. You don't have to burn the entire reservoir, as it's okay to leave the remaining fuel for the next time. Having the burner closed will slow evaporation. There are no embers, etc., so you can simply leave it once finished without worrying about it "rekindling", etc.

Also, using the lid of each burner, you can control the size of the flame and the rate at which the fuel burns, in turn controlling the heat output and cost of operation.

We've attached a picture to better illustrate the lid. The burner shown is the model that the Maximum uses.

6 quarts: $40
12 quarts: $61
24 quarts: $110

These prices include shipping within the Continental United States.

Also, with this model (and most others), cost may be controlled by adjusting the flame. Each burner in this model is adjustable. Therefore, by closing the lid slightly, you'd increase your burn time.
