I think it will look perfectly fine once you add accent color. Do you have more pictures of the room from different angles?

I'm getting a bit of a chuckle out of this. Lately all the makeovers on tv and in magazines, everything is GRAY and STARK WHITE. Ten years from now everybody will refer to the drab color choices of 2010-2016s.

I think it might make for a great multilayer backdrop for some colored accent pieces (lamps, pillows, rugs etc.). Just add color through accessories and fabrics.

you have a start with the plum - you can really play it up, and add some great art and accessories to liven up your space... here's an image from hgtv that really adds some pop!

I, too had to laugh at seeing someone finally admit that having everything in gray is too blah.

One easy way to add some much needed color and interest to your room is with some bright art work. I would go with a dark red or orange to add life to the room. Here are a few ideas:

Much as I love the shade of green on your accent wall, it doesn't work with the gray. My first recommendation would be to paint the rest of the room that color as it works very well with the tile around the fireplace. If you prefer to keep the gray walls, I would repaint that wall a bright dark red such as Benjamin Moore's smoldering red #2007-10:

So you guys think I should actually stick with the color on the wall? I'm willing to change it. Yes, I'm hoping to find some pillows with the plum. I've attached another picture with some mirrors that my designer picked up. I like them...but think they are too dark.

I love the sandblasted driftwood as accept pieces...like the candelabra in the fireplace

Your sandblasted driftwood pieces are very nice, and would look great with that green you're already using.

I really like the paint. Is that the only spot for the couch? It seems like a large room for it to be against the wall like that.

I know...but the green is the "old" color. Doesn't work with the new furniture.

The grey has definitely monopolized this room, I nice hard wood floor would have probably helped accent the grey but there are still several things you can do to brighten up the space. For example this living room is using grey for their neutral and has pops of yellow and purple as you've said you're drawn to notice the pattern on the lighter accent chair. The creamy white with a metallic pattern helps to diffuse the overwhelming grey. The cream drapery and patterned/colored accent pillows also help. The great thing about a grey base is you can pop in fun colors, patterns, and light fixtures. Check out this chandelier it's very cool! Lastly, this accent wall is amazing I love the geometric pattern with the metallic accent. So basically, don't panic yet. You've got a ton of room to play with accent chair patterns, pillows, art, as well as lighting.

Hi! Some artwork would help balance all of the gray in the room and add some other colors. May we suggest...

Don't paint just yet, room is not nearly complete and it will be transformed with art, pillows, curtains, lighting, side tables...then decide. With the color of the wood in adjacent room, perhaps oranges and/or yellows are complimentary and fresh. Two or three of the mirrors might be nice over the fireplace and large colorful art over couch, then bring those colors (plain and graphic) in your pillows (lots of them). Add a tray on the ottoman and some large coffee table books for interest. Perhaps adding an area rug and a colorful throw over the arm of couch. The room is large and can take the armoire and you could store the kids toys, art needs, etc. in there, so they can reach into from their little table if you place on that wall.

I smiled at this room because so many houses rough now are designed with a lot of gray. The BIG difference will be how you accessorize the room. You really can do a lot with this room.

Lighting makes a big difference as well.

Whites and yellows I find go well with gray.
Glass/mirror decor helps. Reflection of lighting sparkles up the room.
Big area rug will cover a lot of the gray on floor.

A great way to incorporate color is through art, so to me, I would pass on the designer mirrors and look for art that expresses your taste and add color there that will be reflected in your throw pillows and accessories.

Add some art in there and some colorful decorative pillows. You can also jazzy up your fireplace with some beautiful mosaic!

Oh, and I think its great to see a kid's corner! And I really like your birds on the wall there. So refreshing to see a room that has function too! Kids need space where the family "lives".

While I agree it's nice to see a kid's corner, maybe an open wood bookcase with baskets would look better in that room than the plastic. You can find them at Pottery Barn or Target. I love the birds on the wall too!

I vote for the purple wall ! It lifts the room plus I love the art too.

Or...maybe a little less big...

It all looks great, really. You're now in the fun stage where you need accessories, a pop of color. Play up your ottoman, bring some lavender pillows, some chartreuse too and you will be on your way.

Love the purple with the grey, then add pops of yellow. It will look great!

I would add artwork and accents with both color and some pattern, before painting walls. Here are a couple of throw pillows that have muliple color and patterns and a room that is in tones of beige without being boring....

I just did a bedroom with dark grey walls. Because it is a neutral, I thought it was a nice backdrop for the flea market style we were aiming for. I did do an accent wall with mint and white stripes to brighten it up and added little pops of color by sprinkling here and there...Have fun! :)

Is it possible to move sofa out from wall, even a few inches?

I really like it as is assuming art and colour added with textiles.

I love the plum accent wall and artwork, fade the grey. We just moved into an all gray painted home and it’s just not our thing. We are adding tons of bohemian rugs, pillows, plants, and art, art, art!!!!!
