If you'll be using it with a barstool(s) I think it will be perfect! Otherwise, it will look a little excessive, imho.

There's barely enough room to put a stool under so it's always going to be strange. For that reason, I would have the excess removed.

Agree with Michaela. If you keep it, you will need to add corbels for stability and to give it a finished look. Personally, I think you'll find the space it provides useful.

I have a 14" overhang and it's fine for stools. However it looks as if it might be in the middle of a traffic path.

something like this would work (photo just for general style, I'm not suggesting black legs or even something this chunky). I think the more counter space you can snag the better unless it is in the direct path of something.

There are rectangular stools perfect for your overhang! Look at Pier 1 or Target for stools.

I am wondering if you couldn't remove the cabinets on the the side shown. That would be a nice breakfast bar.

Agree with Adivra -- add corbels for a finished look and enjoy the extra counter space.

I would do one of these:
1. I would use a molding underneath it so it wont look so awkward and add a sweet stool.
2. You can add a decorative stacked basket for storage
3. I would wait till everything is installed in my kitchen and see what I feel would look best then because you can always make it shorter later. Just make sure to have that conversation with the Fabricator and ask if he can come back later if you should decide to make it shorter.

I agree with Tap. But definitely brace it with some sort of "corbel" should some person hop on it, the brace of the corbel with provide support.
