ultra suede is reported to be one of the easiest fabrics to clean. I don't know if you can put it in a washing machine, but I know that it is easy to spot clean. Are you an experienced seamstress?

I was not expecting to see my project posted as an example above:) I love mixing patterns/colours but in your room I would get a solid colour for the ottoman and pattern on some throw cushions instead. Your area rug is lovely but subtle and other pattern will just detract from it and both will look not quite right.

Sharen I am not, although I somehow have a way of making everything I put my mind to work out! For the ottoman I plan to end up with something like pictured here... But with brown legs.
And thank you Rebecca. The more or been thinking about it the more I've been considering an ultra suede in a solid.
Now the question is what color, I'd like to keep it light (keeping in mind 2 dogs and a child on the way). Would a tan color work?!

I really like the ottoman with the nail heads. I think you will be able to find a beige or tan fabric that will work. Another option might be to find a fabric that is similar to your drapes.

Not sure about tan. Is there an accent colour in these rooms that you can draw on?

The only color I would consider an accent would be that of the drapes which is also found in the pillows, it's on the lines of a steel blue...
It is similar to the rug in shade, I suppose I could try and find something a few shades darker, since it may be difficult to match exactly, but from what was available at the fabric stores that may be a challenge :/

You have that rust coloured trunk in the corner !

We got rid of the crates in the corner, they just felt too bulky. Here's a pic of how it looks now...

Here's a look at the opposite wall... I'd say blues overall are the accent. I have lots of blue books on the shelf too...

Couldn't really see light blue curtains and cushions in your original photo - which can be used to tie in another geometric pattern on the ottoman(versus solid as I originally suggested.). Here are two geometric patterns that I think could work and help bring the room together. They are from fabric.com and very reasonable. What do you think? First is Minky Moroccan Tile Light Blue. Second is Premier Prints Fynn Cool Grey.

We used a red ultra suede on dining chairs in a rental condo for years. They always cleaned up beautifully at the end of the rental season. I think if you find a medium gray or pale camel you will do ok! :)

I like the idea of using light blue accents.

Something that complements but doesn't compete. You already have a lot of Blue (I like it), I'd add a pop of something else. Consider 1 more contrasting color. I have a brown leather sofa and I bought my rug from pottery barn (looks identical). I wanted to add color and lighten things up but I have 2 dogs as well. I will try to send a picture later.

No I think it could work. Because they're not trying to match. This is more about layering colour and pattern in the right way. But you would need to see it to know for sure - you can order a sample of the fabric.

I actually think the first fabric would work better. Why don't you under both samples and see.

Oh never mind first option. It's a soft blanket fabric.

I like the stripe (option 1) you posted and the other ones we both like. Order all three samples and go from there!

When mixing patterns try to stay in the same design - don't mix Greek key, chevron or Ikat (your last one) with Moroccan trellis or geometric (your carpet). Or at least don't put something glaringly different (stripes are pretty neutral).

Hi Samazi. Microfiber Ultra Suede is very easy to keep clean. It repels spills, dirt, and anything else a family can throw at it. HaHa.

With six rescue cats, a cancer-survivor dog, and a sloppy but love able DH, furniture takes a beating. I use a weak solution of laundry detergent/fabric softener/water in a spray bottle with a microfiber cloth to clean, followed by a vacuuming when dry. HtH =}.

Oh! The pillow shows purple & blue on the iPad. Have you thought of adding touches of yellow & violet? Think of a Pansy or Johnny Jump Up and the play of colours. I know you're concentrating on the coffee table ottoman. It's something to put on the back burner to simmer.

locrian, the pillow is actually a dark grey and a light steely blue!

Do you have any idea of the swatch sizes on that site it doesn't say! My next issue would be placement of the pattern on a square ottoman...
The large circles on the ones we like seem to be about 12 inches, would I center 4 on my square ottoman or just go with a random placement?!

I like these...especially the "Aspen". This will pull the gray in since you already have a lot of blue. Plus, the gray will withstand pets and kids longer. Still would add a third contrasting color and accessories like yellow or a nice orange or orangey red. They all complement gray and light blue.

Interior fabrics- Use them a lot and they have great prices! You can search by color once you are on their site.

At that price get double amount. That way you can always recover if it gets really wrecked.

Ok I started a new thread because I couldn't find this one but I wanted to tap back in with you ladies now that I figured out how to access my bookmarks... I got too impatient searching samples and then stressing over waiting for them to arrive just to decide and have to wait again after I order...so I went and picked up a bunch of full size options at the fabric store and these are my favorites so far... Thoughts? I thought the first was very similar to the one many of us we're find of but I'm not sure...

I would still like to see pops of color. I think we have the same rug. We moved in and everything was dark. I wanted to lighten things up and I had all dark furniture. Here are some before and after photos.

Two more! Still a work in progress. I want to change my ottoman and have to hang windows on the wall above the fireplace but it's getting closer. I really had to change all the orangey, gold to get the tile to neutralize.

Hi Samazi, Long time, no see! Congratulations on the baby-on-the-way - a life-changing event, for sure!

I am loving the suzani prints that Rebecca has been posting. And I love that first one in your last set of pics. It is adding some pizzazz to the room, as well as echoing the shapes in the rug and that one patterned pillow.

I also like that it is introducing a bit of yellow, which will play off the red brick of your FP so nicely. If you haven't yet found art for the wall above the sofa, this would be another way to spread little bits of yellow around the room.

The other two fabrics - the solid and the gray and white - seem to fall flat in the room. That little bit of yellow is definitely Italy bringing the room to life.

Hi karemore55, it has even a long time! Thank you all for the input!! This was a long decision making process, as they always are. I decided to go solid, and I know this may have been against the grain but once I started playing with the tufting I realized that I could seriously distort the patterns on the ottoman, I figured I'd be safer with the solid pattern... Here is the end result....! My next mission is more colorful pillows to bring in some pops of color!
And thanks a bunch karemore55, we are getting so close now. The pups have no idea what's coming their way, we're certainly hoping for the best!!!!

Yes, I keep seeing little hits of bright yellow in your room (always have). Not too much, but enough to bring the lovely, quiet blues to life a bit.

Looks great! I like the solid...it gives you the option to change the colors of your pillows if you ever get bored without being locked in. Pillows are easy to change!

The ottoman looks great. I'm glad you tufted the top and used nailhead trim. Nice job.

Have you thought of painting the fireplace white? That would really brighten the room.
