Since price is an issue here, make a list of what you want and prioritize it from 1 to 10. As you can afford things, buy the top items on your list, and get rid of whatever it was that it replaced--if it did.

One thing you might also do is to keep an eye out for nice things at garage sales, on Craig's List and the like. You'd be amazed at what people get rid of that is barely used because it didn't suit their need.

The one thing I would do if this was my room is try to find more art work to go on the walls as that will add a lot of personality to the room for very little cost. Look for posters you can frame in a $20 WalMart or Target black frame instead of paying $80 for a similar frame at a craft store. More pictures of the room would be helpful. Stand in each corner and take a picture towards the opposite corner. How do you want to use the room? As a bedroom only? Do you need a desk? Do you exercise in there?

It is less distracting if you have tidied up your things before taking the picture.
