Do you plan to add any furniture or toss out anything? What kind of look would you like to achieve?

I plan to toss the plastic cubbies since they make me feel like I'm back in my dorm room. Maybe the rug needs to be switched out for another...I am open to suggestions on furniture additions or removals--right now, I am thinking of making a hanging light out of a birdcage and possibly adding some distressed Victorian wall hooks, but that's it, and I'm starting to think they will clash horribly with the stuff that's already in the room (see birdcage picture on the shelves that I just "installed"--birdcage is from my wedding) next to the blue tiki head lamp, which I fear I will never part with no matter how useless it is...I would like to achieve more coherency with the decor and make the room seem less sparse.

Seems like the issue is to choose a starting place and work from that. Which do you like better....the curtains or the rug?

Spend some time creating an ideabook here on Houzz so you can hone in on your style. Early cast-off is not a style you want to go with.
