I agree with libradesigneye. Short curtains are never a good idea. The roman shades will give you privacy when needed and the fabric will soften the room.

I happen to like short curtains, and I suggest you get two matching pairs of sheer or semi-sheer panels for each window. Hang the top pair on a rod attached to the upper window trim and the other pair from a rod that runs across the wood that divides the upper and lower window. However, be sure the hems of the top panels overlap the headers of the lower panels to add fullness and softness to the window areas. You may prefer that the top panels be pinch-pleated draw draperies and the lower panels the rod pocket type, but be sure the fabric and color match perfectly. If you want color contrast or a print, buy or make contrasting or print valences and install them on valence rods. To make the room look coordinated, buy or make throw pillows in the same print or color as the valences.

I just looked at your photo again, and I see your chandelier is a traditional style. Therefore, I would suggest you add white crown molding around the room. the molding will give your room definition and class, regardless of what you do for window treatments and/or color.

I would go for blinds of some sort. They will be completely out of the way of the pups (who may also love to jump & hang). The floor looks very dog friendly.

Since you're concerned about your dogs and long draperies, I agree that roman shades are a good choice. Have them outside mounted a few inches above your window. Here's some inspiration:

Angela I love your pics, the first one is good for me. My theme will be beige sofa and black and white pillows.

The black and white shade is called a "hobbled shade". That means that even when the shade is down, it still has folds. (As opposed to a flat shade that is flat when it's down.) The black stripe is either an inset banding (made from fabric) or a decorative tape trim. These shades were custom made. If you want something just like it, a local interior designer or a drapery workroom should be able to help you.

@custom decor by Angela.... well done! thank you
