Which Backsplash Goes With Michelangelo Dolomite Countertops?

last month

These are my countertops. I thought I'd keep the cabinets. I want to do a backsplash going all the way up to the cabinets. What would go best? The last photo is a closeup of the countertop so you can see the colors better.

Definitely white backsplash. Perhaps linear pattern of subway tile. The countertop is heavy with swirl pattern and color so you dont want to add anymore of either

a light green tile would compliment your cabinets and let the countertop shine.

I would do no tile backsplash. I would just paint the backsplash wall area same color as the other walls, in an eggshell finish, which makes it cleanable/wipeable. Or you could paint the area whatever color you want. Gold, blush pink, coral, light blue or sky blue- because the sky is the limit! It‘s just paint and just the backsplash area. You can always change it. And you could just put a piece of stainless behind the range/cooktop if you need something there.

I would totally save the backsplash tile costs and the installation costs. You have a ton of visual interest in the counters. You do not need a decorative backsplash. And that is what tile splashes, etc. mostly are- decorative. Also, in my opinion, most any tile backsplash will be competing with the countertops as well as potentially detracting from the countertops.

That counter is fabulous but I find the cabinets are fighting it so whatever backsplash you use it should be as simple as possible you have some elements really fighting eachother now . The range , the cabinets and the counter are not good together so I agree maybe just paint.

I agree with @freedomplace1 - use a wipeable paint for the backsplash wall. It allows you to find the exact shade of white-ivory that is in the background of the stone.

Don’t try for a color. The countertop declared itself the center of attention, so don’t fight it. It’s stunning.

Beautiful! Great choice to update the cabinets. Looks fabulous. I have painted walls. Not an issue.

Thank you, @RedRyder. I think painted wall for backsplash area would work very well in this case.

To tell you the truth, I prefer painted wall on a backsplash in most cases. It’s a simple, less fussy approach. And, not to mention, it’s a style that is trending these days.

I agree that the counter is the star- and certainly keeping things simple and painting backsplash same as wall would work, as per my first suggestion. But it’s also nice to have the option of easily being able to change up the look- and OP could have a lot of fun with colors. The painted colors used could be more striking and still complement the countertop- versus taking away from the countertop, as a tile, etc., could potentially do.

The paint color possibilities are really endless- but here (below) are just a few examples. (The colors would just be on the backsplash area. These are rough visuals I did using PPG paint visualizer.)

    Coral Blush:

    Maybe Maui:

    Cameo Rose:

As I said, the color possibilities are endless. These are just a few I grabbed to show the general idea. :)

“It allows you to find the exact shade of white-ivory that is in the background of the stone.”

I agree, if you decide on paint. A cream that blends with the counters would work nicely.

Need to consider your tiled floor as well, so there's lots of busy pattern already going on. You also have pretty textured walls which would look nice painted a coordinating color. I would skip the backsplash, or perhaps you can get a 4-5 inch backsplash same as the countertop. You might want to post another photo that shows the floor, cabinets and counter from floor to ceiling. Will help to get better ideas.

Is your flooring and white appliances staying?

  • last month

No, the white appliances will be replaced with stainless steel, and we’re getting new flooring. Haven’t decided what type yet.
