We are refreshing our kitchen and the next step is to order new cabinet doors and drawer fronts for the existing boxes. Currently the doors are warping painted MDF from the 90's with arches in the uppers. We are debating the profile for the doors and drawers -- whether to just match the existing (which is a little more detailed and traditional like all our millwork) or update with a Shaker/Recessed panel. If we do that, I think we want to have beaded trim detail inside the recessed area and will get some pretty hardware. One concern with the Shaker is that the houses in my idea books have those style doors set flush with the box fronts not sitting on top of the fronts like ours will be. Also we are wondering if current will look dated and we should do the simpler style. And lastly, I like how our drawer fronts currently look, and wonder if we do Shaker if we need to do same for drawer fronts,

Eager for your thoughts. These will be painted ivory again and if anyone can tell me the difference between Shaker and recessed panel, that would be appreciated. I will be calling Raw Doors (manufacturer) tomorrow for that explanation as well. Thanks in advance for any advice! Lastly, this is one of the kitchens that I think relates well style-wise to what we will end up with (transitional/traditional, warm, liveable).
