A round or softly oval table would be a great choice here because it would interrupt the long, straight shape of the room and help the dining area feel like its own defined space. I would also test Nonchalant White carefully before painting the entire room. With the limited natural light, it may read flatter or slightly greener than expected next to the celery linen.

Since you’re replacing several major elements, I wouldn’t remove every traditional detail. Keeping one or two characterful pieces as anchors and simplifying everything around them would make the room feel updated without losing its personality.

A round pedestal table could work especially well in a long room: the curved outline would interrupt the linear geometry, while the central base can make movement around the dining area feel less obstructed than a table with corner legs.


A round table like the first example could be a very natural fit here. In a warm wood finish, it could relate beautifully to your cherished older pieces while adding warmth and definition against the Nonchalant White and celery linen.


Alternatively, a more sculptural, elongated table like the second example could create an interesting contrast with the long geometry of the room, while still keeping the dining area visually light and distinctive.

Wow those are beautiful ideas. I ended up with an oval that has small footprint when closed but I have the option for seating 8+. Thank you so much. I wish I had the living room in the first picture-
