I think some higher end tile companies seem to be branching out into glass surfaces. I have shifted my aesthetic to stainless steel and a mirror backsplash behind the bar.

Back painted glass with paper backing can be put together with any type of paint and if the glass breaks the glass will stay together. Most often companies use acrylic paints because they are the best quality paints you can buy and they create a better look to the backsplash as well. Most definitely back painted glass with paper backing runs cheaper and I highly suggest for anyone interested in this to order them from a professional glass company.

I just found a website backpaintedglass.com that quotes much lower prices. I haven't ordered from them, so can't attest to quality, but will probably do so in the near future.

I am wondering it if looks good and costs less to paint the wall (backsplash) the color I like and have installed a clear tempered glass on top of it. Anyone familiar with this? Thanks!

Have you ever thought about back painted glass with the paper backing? The paper backing is applied for safety and for a more security measures, one to keep the glass in place if there is ever any breaks in the glass, to protect yourself from getting injured, and two it is a security measure where the paper backing acts as a cushion between the wall and the glass like a shock absorber, so it can take a bumping up against, and will last for years and years. The paper backing is treated so it is waterproof and rot resistant etc. and usually runs cheaper then the other types of back painted glasses.

Any glass company that makes back painted glass probably will make that style backsplash as well, all you need to do is ask about the paper backing type.

All I know is most back painted glass that uses paper backing comes from professional companies that use better quality paint with longer life spands. I know I would want to know if my back splash was a professional acrylic paint because the companies use acrylic formulas with slow drying times to create a long life span for their back splashes. I wouldn't buy too cheap of ones because I have heard of cracking of paint after 5 to 10 yrs. And I want mine without replacing it for at least as long as I own my home and then some after to give my home more of a value to it if I ever sold it. I know a guy from Syracuse NY assembles shower splashes and another company in Illinois assembles paneling in back painted glass and also Kitchen Back splashes. I also believe there is a place in Cape Cod and Ohio. But am not sure what the company names are. The closest place to Michigan would be the place in Illinois which is in Chicago called Glasone Glass & Aluminum. I believe there website has a quote form to fill out. www.glasone.com.

This is a wonderful blog site. Christina, I am.also interested in shower splashes aka shower walls in painted glass. I have spent too many years cleaning grout in showers and walls. We are building a timberframe in Missouri as a retirement home and plan to make it ADA and as low maintenance as possible. Any additional suggestions are welcome!
