Landscaping 400m2 - ideas please

We have recently purchased the block next door to us and now have to come up with a plan - without spending a huge amount of money as we may want to build a house on it one day. I'm thinking of creating zones - kids area with trampoline etc, a vegetable and herb patch and who knows what else. It is a narrow block, perhaps 10 mtrs wide and slopes gently down. We have a pool so need to incorporate fencing for that and our dog. Anyone got any great ideas for blending it with out existing house and land ? And great ideas for use of the land?

For the out lying areas that you don't designate for something, plant wildflower seeds there. A lot of wildflowers are perrenials so you won't have to deal with them next year other than to weed and water them.

I like the idea of different areas. You should think about a way to tie all areas together with the same material whether that be strips of lawn, gravel, or mulch. If you can incorporate something from your existing property it will look more like one property. Find a landscape designer in your area to help you lay it out. Having a plan will help you install it in the long run.

Kids always like dirt area or lawn area to play ball on or wild areas to play capture the flag or hide and go seek.

You mention a vegetable/herb garden so why not put in a nice "kitchen garden?" http://www.vegetablegardener.com/item/4156/how-to-build-a-kitchen-garden-from-scratch

If the ground is level enough you could also set up a croquet court. I don't know any kids who don't like sending their competitor's ball flying when they get the chance...of course only you know if the kids can be trusted with balls and mallets.
