Our new house is dark!!!

How do we lighten up the space without painting it white? Will a light gray work? We want to use as much of our current furnishings as we can, we have several brown couches (don't ask). We have lots of big open spaces, but the windows seem to be too small. Any advice would be helpful!

Is it possible to do a plan of the house (free hand with some idea of measuraments would be good) - showing the windows and a north point?

As long as the colour is light tone you can do any colour. (Take a black and white photo of a space, if the contrast of tone is high, then you are bringing in loads of light and keeping the dark of your sofas to a minimum)Reflective surfaces such as lacquer, mirrors or satin will also bounce lightExplore where you can add mirrors close to the windows to increase the light entering the room
