sorry. not in a million zillion years would i get in :) i don't like ANY elevators :) i even avoid revolving doors. We hve friends who have a regular elevator because of health issues though, and it provides more mobility.

I think it's a terrific idea for mobility. I was looking at one of these for a home I was thinking of building, with an eye to the future. I love it!!

Very nice and designed for the future! I do like it especially since it is ADA accessible since the point of an elevator is mobility for those that need it most. One thing to think about is how to keep it clean. In terms of ascetics, it would probably need to be kept sparkling clean. Would you need a ladder to clean it? Just something to think about.

Once again, when we design, we look a lot of different variables, the elevator looks fun and pleasing to the eye, because it is unusual. Now, its extremely small, this is the kind of improvement that will have your house in the market forever, if you were to try to sell it, it is NOT functional. I would never suggest it to anyone and if this was a must for a client, I would have them sign a release of liability.

how do you keep it clean of fingerprints? i would paint "The Scream" on it :)

I also saw it in person and believe they did their research to make it work well. Any time we are on the cutting edge, there is some risk, but we are willing to do that. Well I think it is very cool, but then I just included the Transtube 360 into my Ideabook on dream showers. You could put that in the bathroom and have a whole theme going. Seriously though, your original question was if anyone had used this. I have not, but I would ask the manufacturer for references to a couple of architects who have used it and call them up to see what the ins & outs were. I've always found professional colleagues to be very helpful and I'm sure you'll get some good input that way. I really like that it is see-through so that it doesn't take up so much visual space in a property and it provides a fun birds-eye view as you ride up and down. I'm sure a client who can afford this will not have to worry about pulling out the windex to clean this themselves so those concerns wouldn't worry me. There have been all glass elevator shafts in hotels for many years now and they seem to deal with them just fine. At least you got to use one in person, so you know that it feels good and has plenty of space.

Is your photo of the home where you have installed it already or is this an example from the manufacturer?

is there a version of this that would double as a dumbwaiter? that might be useful as well.

We looked into purchasing one for our two-story foyer. The good thing is, it can be taken out when the house is sold--it just sits on the floor. The bad thing is, you can't use just any kind of cleaner on the surface, plus it attracts dust on the surface because it is a man-made material, not glass--just has the appearance of glass.

Pangae, thanks for your comments. Yes, the client probably won't be worried about cleaning this. This pic is from the manufacturer. The one I will post will go 4 stories, so it eill not long as tall as the pic. I will post plenty of pics of that project once.done in 3-4 months. Thanks again.

Recently stayed at a house that had one of these elevators. First off, it's not very practical. I'd say it's more of a convenience to carry luggage up and down. It's very noisy and very slow. I could walk down the stairs and meet my kiddies at the door before they got down! After the novelty wore off even the kids wouldn't use it.

I must say it is a great selling point. They have
4 kids so you can imagine the trips up & down during the showing.
That should wear off but they drove their parents crazy!

I have 48 stairs to my front door and I live in San Francisco, so the pneumatic drive is a must. Do you know how much it cost ?

They had one on the Vanilla Ice Project. It honestly seems pretty silly for one flight of stairs unless there is someone with mobility problems. You can make your own opinion about if Vanilla Ice adds or takes away from the cool factor.

I have been fascinated for years with these elevators. No underground cables, can do 2 or3 floor height, and can be installed easily, compared to old type elevators. Have my spot already for installation when husband or I unable to navigate stairs

Great option. I'm presently designing elevator into a home as well. Will look at this as potential product. I've only ever used the fully enclosed.

The cost of this elevator is $70k. Remember it goes 4 levels ($17.5k per level) Compared to "enclosed" elevators this is about 25% more expensive... but the cool factor may be worth it to the discerning client. Keep you all posted when I get it into the house!
