Utilizing my kitchen space

Hi there,

My kitchen/dining area is very long and you can see in the pictures that on the left is the kitchen then my dining table is on front of a bay window and next is this open space which now includes a big built in desk but we are going to tear that out. Can you give me any ideas on how to best utilize that space once the desk is gone? (The pics are taken from left to right)

Also we are redoing the countertops and replacing them with granite. Do you have any suggestions about a good color scheme for the space?

Wow. Asking for a color scheme is like going into a candy store and saying "pick something for me." What colors make you happy? What colors make you feel comfortable? What type of feel do you want from the room? So many factors to consider.

Perhaps the easiest way to determine a color scheme is to find a print or fabric that you love and work from that. You don't have to actually use that particular print in the room unless you just want to but you will know that the colors you've chosen will play nicely with each other and you won't have to worry about making a misstep with them.

If you're still unsure where to start, take a look in your closet and find the colors you love to wear. At least you'll then have some frame of reference in mind instead of the myriad choices the rainbow provides.

You could make the space where the desk now is into a cosy little seating area.
Is your dining table centred under the chandelier? Could be the angle of the photo, but it looks like the chandelier is hanging above the chair ;-)
