It looks contemporary, but if you love antiques you could fill it with them too. Will you work or just live there?

Since it's a rental, you probably can't do much architecturally but I would encourage disguising the bad lighting in the kitchen and foyer with some kind of hanging such as sheer drapery, pendants or mobiles.
The high ceilinged main room will need some large art pieces to add interest and color and probably some well-placed mirrors to make the room look wider.
The space is dramatic so go big and good luck.

Great view end . . but we need to get you some roman shades or accordians for privacy from above - get top down bottom up so you can vary your light control and privacy.
You have a terrific outdoor room as well . . . over time, add thriftstore rattan and cane pieces outdoors unified with color - black spray paint .. it won't matter as much that they are exposed to the elements. You can use an inexpensive table the same way, and let it gray out to driftwood naturally.

Inside . . consider an art gallery wall with three oversized pieces that anchor 8 - 12 more average sized elements .. . it can grow and develop over time. That will draw attention / take advantage of the vertical space. Look into an art mobile (gallery stores from museums used to carry them).

With the neutral palette, white, black iron, light wood floor .. buy neutrals in gray, black and white and focus on only one color . . let's say it is a plum toned violet. When you buy color or pattern, (pillows, kitchen linens, bedlinens, art), consider things with your accent color, especially paired with white or black or gray. . . buy a washcloth in this accent color shade you really love and carry it around with you in your handbag. Pull it out and put it next to whatever you contemplate ... if it works with your "color" well, you'll know you are in the right hue range. .. Just this simple focus can do a lot. Use spray paint to transform clean lined items you find at thriftstores and craigslist. Thriftstore art with decent frames and canvas can be painted over for inexpensive modern art . .. .

Buy a ladder so you can put high shelves in your closet / bed area. You can paint with rustoleum spray paint too so it becomes a feature there (why not a tall violet ladder?), and even cover bankers boxes with fabric / fabric glue to store things up high for cheap and cute. They are available in packs at the office supply store for not much. Look at IKEA for black iron shelf supports, but use them above the shelves instead of below for a great look -
