Hideous bathroom color

We bought our house and the bathroom came with brown and ivory tile. What color can we paint the top part of the wall to make our bathroom look airy and energetic?

We vote for greens/blues.
Run, don't walk to the nearest paint store and bring an extra bag to put blue and green samples in. Have a blast collecting them. Then narrow down to 4 and paint cardboard at least 2' x 2' preferably larger, the color. Don't paint directly on the wall.
Change the "color posters" daily and you'll figure it out. It is really not a bad start to work with.
Just imagine how limited you'd be with pink and black or turq and mauve :P

Just about any color will work. Pale butter yellow, light aqua, greens, blues in watery tones, even pale pink. What is you favorite color that makes you smile in the morning? Bring several different samples to decide if necessary. Accent in coordinating towels. Or cream towels.

I don't think it is that bad ,and at least it is a neutral ...get gray lighting and paint it a mocha color or be bold and go chocolate brown ...paint the vanity BM dove white and any trim

When you say "energetic" I think of yellow. :) (But it really depends what that word evokes for *you*.) I would also explore painting the brown tile, either the same color as your wall, or white to match the other tile. It's going to affect the way you view and feel any color you paint above the tile. (And yes, ceramic tile can be painted!)

I suggest staying with the brown and cream only. Use a wallpaper that has an interesting, complimentary feel which will take your eye up and away from the tile.

i think the green undertone in the wall color brings out the pink undertones in your tile. i would stay away from green, or taupe with green undertones. anything in the brown/tan family should work. xoxo eva @ monarchsofas.com
ps. i usually would suggest lighter colors for a bathroom, but i would love to see the contrast between the lighter tile and a darker, rich brown ... like so:

It's not the greatest color tile, but it COULD be worse. Like the bath we inherited, with true 1970's AVOCADO GREEN - blech!

Seriously though, I would do the cardboard test mentioned above, probably in blues or grays or just stick with a white that matches the tile and let your accessories liven it up.
