I would paint the cabinets a lighter color and get new updated handles - this will be cheap but make it look like brand new cabinets. I would also consider new countertops maybe a dark quartz. Quartz is similar to granite in look but is much cheaper

You can certainly paint them, but if you don't do it properly the paint will chip away within a couple years. Sage colored paint, or a cream would look nice with black granite. By the way, quartz is not cheaper than granite, it generally prices in at about a tier 3 or 4 granite. At least in my area...if you do get granite, ask your fabricator if the have a sealer that will give you a warranty against stains. This takes the yearly sealing out of the equation.

And yes, update the hardware. If you go with a light colored paint, go with oil rubbed bronze. You actually have some nice floor tiles, after these upgrades, you may want to keep the floor.

Would suggest you live in it for a few months and pull ideas from Houzz that have a galley kitchen like yours and develop a well thought out plan with quotes. You might find some art and a colorful rug would be enough of a quick change/update as the tile and cabinets look pretty good from photo. Otherwise, cream or white dove for cabinets and a dark counter would be pretty. Good luck.

Make sure you scour Pinterest for ideas too. You can reface so much of this stuff yourself and for very, very little money.
