induction elements heat up quickly and don't require any gas hook ups.

I was always a gas cooktop person until our last remodel 5 years ago. My older son (a chef) told me to check out induction. I love it. The response is as fast as gas, kitchen doesn't heat up as much. Cleanup is a breeze. Spills don't stick. The only downside is you need cook wear which a magnet will attract. All clad, dansk, cast iron all work. Its been 5 years and it still looks like new. We have a mid-range, Bosch induction cooktop- put in about a 2yrs ago as part of a kitchen replacement- absolutely great, super easy to clean (trust me that gas burners love to collect grease and dust. The bottoms of pans are also much cleaner than in my gas-burner days.)

I agree with the others about their speed and performance. The only con I've been able to discover is simply the worry that I might put a pan down too quickly and break the glass- I also never push pans across the surface, so the way I make omelettes has changed. Overall, the pros well outweigh cons.
