Do you have image of the other side of the room? It will help to see how the area in question relates to the rest of the space.

Thank you, Manon! A lot of people are afraid of color. I love it, as long as it's distributed in moderation.

As you can see, we just moved in last week, so our place is still somewhat naked.

Hi, merfaucette. I think I'd go with a parsons console in white, with black and white chevron cubes underneath and a humungous canvas above. That would serve as the focal point of your dining room. To the left, in the living area, I'd put a low profile media console with TV atop it. See attached image for a visual - notice that the canvas has a little orange in it.

I think it's good to have negative space in interiors, so leave some between the two pieces.

As soon as I saw your chesterfield sofa I thought how fabulous an arc floor lamp would look behind it! Very chic, but contemporary, too. A photo is below.

If you need more seating, get a Hollywood regency styled chair and put it the corner opposite the sofa (towards the sliding glass). I don't think a bench would be all that useful in the area in question. But you could put one perpendicular to the sofa to help define the living area. I would go for upholstery since your sofa is leather.
