Windows...aluminum or vinyl

We currently have aluminum, double glass windows. We believe the Low-e glass would be wonderful to have throughout our home but are not sure if we should only replace the glass with Low-e or replace the entire window with a vinyl frame and Low-e glass. It will be so expensive to replace the entire window we're not sure if it's worth the expense. Advice please.

I was hoping it would help with the heat that is coming into a couple of windows after losing trees. Our breakfast area is unbearable in the morning and our office is a sauna in the afternoon.

Suggest visiting a couple of local window stores -- not Home Depot, Lowes etc, and talking with staff there. Specifying the best windows for your specific application, climate and budget will be easy for them.

Look into "heat mirror" technology for those east and west facing windows. Hurd is one manufacturer using it.

Consider some type of storm window too.

External shading, from trees or some type of structure is best.
