Thanks! I am changing the countertops too. This one was a bit too much for the sleek look I am going for. I was thinking quartz in a white or something with a hint of sparkle.

White subway tile looks amazing in kitchen you can also had a touch of glass tile for deco or just do subway, as far as counter you need to make sure it coordinates if you are doing white backsplash and counter in two shades of white would look weird need to match

Okay this is not right bottom cabinets needs same as top color then your counter top will pop and backsplash go with a lite tone glass soft color

Viorica, we just looked at the subway tiles and in a glass tile, which was very nice! The glass tiles seemed to work best because it didn't compete with the white, even though it was white itself. It's a nice safe choice but maybe I should venture out more. The quartz countertops we saw was white but had glass/sparkles in it. I am not sure if it goes.

Talianko, thank you! We had to change the kitchen to match the modern look we have in the living room. In the living room, we had an red-orange wall and light gray. Our furniture will be modern with some mid-century pieces, so the kitchen didn't vibe with our decor.

I will take your advice. I want to have some more fun, a mosaic sounds like a good alternative to subway. I will take a look!!! :-)

@blue1414, I am not planning on keeping the countertop. It was the building's standard grade for everyone, it's a greenish/black granite that had too many patterns that conflicted with my clean look design. Off it goes! :-)

FYI, I will be changing the floor to a light wood color.

If your space is small, have you considered doing a mirror backsplash?

Home Depot has some amazing 12" by 12" sheets of hexagon shiny chrome metal tiles that would be dynamite. They are both modern and traditional at the same time and about $15.00 a square foot.
