Sky light or not?

I have my heart set on a sky light for my interior kitchen in order to get natural light. The space between the ceiling and the roof is roughly 10 ' which is pretty deep. I'm not sure how effective this really deep sky light will be and if it's worth investing. Can anyone provide some advice based on experience or knowledge? The sky light will be in a 2' x 6' opening.
