A silver shag would work. Not square but a 8x10 run long ways from chairs to chairs. Not angled.

I agree coffee table looks out of place should be functional and 18" from furn. I think a better furn arrangement is needed.

The rug should be a non neutral color (red, green, blue, purple?).

Then of course this room would need matching curtains!!

Hi- it is me again *waving*... one more teeny suggestion...the accent pillows on the chairs are not working for me. I can see something with some blue;)

Corner fireplaces make it tough to arrange furniture especially when there's a TV involved.

A new coffee table is needed but it also needs to be close enough to chairs and sofa to be useful and not just a space filler.

I agree about accent pillows. I thought about even yellow. What do you think about that. I was looking at a silver shag. About curtains - think I need some?

Try putting the tall centerpiece in the floor near the window. Lower the paintings so they're not even with the window tops.

LB, (or anyone) do you have a way to put the two tables you suggested in my room so I can decide? Thanks so much for all of the suggestions.

jp- what is your thought process on the yellow?? I am not seeing it. I think adding the blue would cool it back down a notch;)

think of moving the zebra rug under the sideboard(which is beautiful) and leaving the floor bare to show off the great round table!!!!f

love love love the rug. i agree the coffee table should be changed out. not only for the listed reasons, it is too matchy matchy with the same table in the side of the photo. maybe use it in another room? cant wait to see what you do. coffee table should have a function so closer to seating area is a must for me. beautiful room!!!

I like the rug. I agree turn it to run with the fireplace. And bring the furniture closer in to the rug. Ideally you need the front two legs of the upholstery on the rug. I would say you could use a bold pop of color. What about orange? Orange coffee table and accent pillows. Pops of orange accessories. Then I would do charcoal window treatments, this will bring some if the heaviness up the walls for balance.

And for the dining room you could do window treatment in the pop of color you use in the family room. Also lower the artwork. Don't create a static line with the windows.

Note on hanging window treatments: hang them high and wide to make your windows look bigger and not block light.

I like the rug placed the way you have it. I think it would be more difficult to arrange existing furniture if you squared it to the TV. I would instead square up the two beige chairs to the rug to help the linear imbalance in the room.

Can you switch the two beige chairs with the gray chair? Maybe move the charcoal double chair opposite the FP? And square all of them to the rug? Not sure if this will work though.

April the orange is really pretty too. Love the curtains the way you suggested orange table sounds interesting. I also really like the black ones that LB suggested.

LB, I got a price for the second table you suggested. It is, unfortunately, out of my price range. Still like the first table you suggested? Have had a lot of good suggestions with the blue accent pieces. I like the orange suggested by April. Great way to pull the dining area and living area together.

I large black solid table will help with softening the zebra rug. I love the rug.

You asked a question about placement of end tables.
I would use one between the light chair pair.
One next to the single gray print chair, just move the table closer to the chair to connect them together. About 4" from each other.

I'm going to move them now. I'll send a pic once I do. What are your thoughts on accent colors?

Is that better? If I put the lamp on the table, think I should move the floor lamp?

I see a lamp on the table with the single gray chair. Is that a floor lamp or table lamp? If that is a table lamp, it is too tall for the chair and the table. It's hard to see? I don't see another lamp?

It is a table lamp. The other lamp is in the very corner by the windows and the two chairs.

I'm not sure what you mean about squaring the two chairs

i Love the rug, but the coffee table and other small table are to busy, and i think u have too much furniture in that small space. i would go with a bigger couch or 2 love seats, and take out the grey chair, the cabinet under the tv competes with the fireplace. and i think the purple pillows are to cold. would the tv be too high up above the fireplace? i do like those 2 chairs

Place the chairs and sofas, all in a straight line 'parallel to the rug' edges. You have them angled to the rug edges.

The pillows are really charcoal gray and are there until I decide about accent colors this is furniture I brought from my other house. Just doesn't seem to be working as I had hoped

The end tables are perfectly fine. You don't need anything larger for end tables. You just need a larger coffee table. I really like the end tables!

Oh okay. Having trouble getting the two chairs parallel to the rug the gray one is now parallel. Yikes I'm frustrated! Not very good at decorating Another reason I appreciate the advice!

I just had a thought.... I think the best rug for your placement of FP & TV & room shape .... would be a ROUND Rug.

Could you find out if you can have the rug cut and rebound into a round?

Or ... if there is another place for the zebra rug, then a new large Round Rug?

A new round rug (more color & design options) will give you more options available for a coffee table too. Probably rethink a coffee table choice?

I would use one or the other. I like the floor lamp best. The table lamps are too tall. That table does not need a lamp, maybe?

If you can't afford new lamps, they will be okay.

If you get a round rug, the furniture will work smoother surrounding the rug and probably more convenient for TV watching because they will be in a curve placement.
