    Hi cspinelli:The floor is the original hardwood floor that came with the house when we purchased it. We assume the original flooring was just regular floor boards and that it got upgraded with this hardwood sometime in the 60ies. It is a flat-cut tongue and groove oak hardwood, about 2" wide. We sanded it down, applied conditioner to open the pores and stained it with a dark stain. After that we applied 2 layers of varnish.

      Hi mokeik: The stain we used was from Min Wax, dark walnut. We applied a conditioner before, which made the floor really receptive to the stain but also changes the colour result. You might wanna test it out in a corner before you do the whole floor.

      I would agree. Plain/Flat sawn is the common cut. Rift & Quartered will have a different grain pattern with rays and flakes. Here is a RQ floor shot to compare.
