Is this your stuff? If so I like the look but would get rid of the wicker basket thing beside the sofa and also the rug is too blah for the space the coffee table is too high for the sofa as for color i would start with some art work, you have some great wall space for art and take the colors from there for walls and rug and pillows. Some colorful pieces of glass on the shelves would be awesome and not so many little things on there. I would try to find a rug that is larger and maybe a shag for some texture in the space I think a soft teal would work for a rug without it being too much for the space and would also allow for it to go with anything else you choose.

Great space. It is all about balance. Patricia has it right about removing the wicker basket and so does Mac Interiors about changing out the rug. I'm not keen on a geometric pattern for your space because of the existing geometry of the floor. The animal print or some other amorphous pattern would work well juxtaposed with the hard edges and sleek pieces. The horizontal pieces - sofa, new lower cocktail table, entertainment console, etc. need to be balanced with larger pieces on the wall - the television is too small as it is dwarfed by the large black on the kitchen wall. You'll need something taller on the living room side of the apartment to balance the kitchen island. The shelving unit on the other wall in the living space is headed in the right direction. I'd suggest working with a professional interior designer. Best of luck in your new apartment.

I agree about the fact that the wall invites for some nice art. I'm unsure what kind of colors will go with the black and shiny granite floor. I personally prefer a wooden or matte stone floor so i never thought about a shiny black floor. I was thinking of low brown leather sofas with a touch of brushed stainless steel or maybe chrome. Please inspire me!
