Where to get posts and do they meet underground?

I am wanting to add some sail shading in my patio and like the round metal posts you added to the tree house structure. Where do you usually have them made at? are they welded underground or just set on concrete? How far did you have to bury them? Sorry for so many questions, just trying to get familiar with the installation procedures on posts this large. Thanks!

The posts you see were welded to steel base plates, which are buried. All this was made by a local steel fabricator. They require simple fabrication techniques but an exacting layout to achieve the proper angles, etc. The steel base plates were anchored to very large concrete footings, 42" deep by 24" diameter with lots of rebar. This complied with local code at that time. To ensure a proper installation, I would recommend getting a licensed structural engineer or GC to design this system. The dynamic loads on sail shades (and ziplines) can be enormous. This zipline had a dynamic load of 11k#. Thanks for your interest.
