Help me update!

I love this sofa set but it is very dated. Would love some advice for modernizing it :)

You might want to reupholster the units in a deep green, to pick up the colors in your crochet work, and add accents in mauve, to pick up the colors in your painting.

Go chic retro vintage: lucite, brass/glass, faux fur...think glam.

Could we see pictures of all 4 walls of the room please?

Could reupholstering this be a DIY job? I would like to reupholster and prime and paint the wooden pieces, The entire room will be renovated as well, but just looking for ideas beforehand.

I think you could reupholster the bench part of your sofa to bring it up to date with eclectic vintage look. A think a deep teal or cream velvet or faux suede could either continue your muted theme or lighten it. The bench part is fairly easy to do but not the rest. Tie it in with either deep rust or cream /olive cushions

If you have never reuphostered, this is a daunting job. You may be able to do slipcovers, but even those can be tricky, but of the two, it is easier.

Maureen is so right. Recovering this set is for a pro only.

Is the painting staying? The rug needs to be much larger - big enough to fit the grouping. Since you might what to focus on the design of the pieces, a solid fabric would be the ticket.

You must be considering how to place the 3 pieces in a more organized orientation so I won't go there or mention other things that could be improved in this space.

The furniture is awesome and so glad you will be rescuing it and loving it for all it's worth, which will be considerable! Kudos!

Tufting is IN! Have it reupholstered (this is a job for pros) in a soft grey fabric. Beautiful.

I would love to see a picture of the whole sofa configured as it was originally!

We just bought this house furnished. There are quite a few gems in there, excited to get started

Get rid of the border and reclining nude asap. Having the sofas reupholstered is not a dyi job and will be very costly. Do some research before committing to using them.

It will be very expensive to have this reupholstered, so if it's in good shape, I'd keep this fabric and try to work with it first. (And I would say it could be a diy if it weren't tufted; that's the part that really takes a pro.)

The beauty of Houzz, you have so many great ideas! Look at these two options. You are right the sofa is so fun and can really become the center piece of your new place.

Hi---very unique piece. I agree with others, if the fabric is good, keep it as is and design your space around it. Monochromatic with a pop of color here and there. Good Luck!

that set is wonderful! save up to have it reupholstered. in the meantime, you can re do the seat cushions in a velvet solid to coordinate with the rest. please reconsider painting it.

I am afraid that this room is not amenable to being Photoshopped into compliance.
It's sufficiently idiosyncratic that the usual "paint it, get some fun throw pillows and a new area rug" approach won't work.
Rather, it has its own unique vintage aesthetic. The accessories are key to the look.

    The wallpaper border must go!

It would cost a fortune to try to recover that sofa. Time for a real change. Don't invest more money in those pieces...
