it looks like you already have a 4 inch granite backsplash. is that staying if you add the slate & tile? also, are you missing a wall outlet between the window and bar?

the glass tiles and slate will look great. i would take it to the edge of the wall cabinet and stop. i would only take it to the window if you could continue on the other side of the window, which here would look silly.

Yes, the granite is staying, we don't have an outlet between the window and the bar, we have one located under the breakfast bar on the little wall connecting the countertop and the breakfast bar.

Put it all the way around. Kitchens are confusing enough with all the "stuff" that goes into them try as we may to be minimalist.

Highly recommend removing the 4" backsplash of granite so that your backsplash won't looked chopped up with two surfaces in a very small space under the cabinets.

If you don't remove the 4" BS then you'll have almost no room under the window and above the sink for your tile. It won't look together.

Notice the pictures above....yours won't look like that if you keep the granite backsplash.

You've got beautiful cabinets and the potential for an amazing kitchen so now's the time to do it right.

Thank you for your suggestions, the 4" granite BS most likely is here to stay. We're looking for slate/glass tile BS that would blend with the granite as much as possible, trying to avoid that choppy look.

I love the look of the backsplash going all around a window, I don't know if I'd like it in my kitchen though, especially since it's a pretty open area. I'd be worried that there would be too much tile in this medium sized kitchen, maybe if I find the right type of tile that could be doable. I'll try to post more pictures of the layout.

Yes you will, if you don't go all the way around the window it will look very choppy.
