Bathroom tiles and mirror question

Hi, I'm in the midst of designing my bathroom finishings for my new condo.
I've chosen a kind of tile similar to what is shown here: [houzz=

And I like the staggered/brick style of the tiles instead of having them all lined up vertically.
My issue is that the designer is saying that it would look better with the mirror (which will be installed in the same plane of the tiles) to have the tiles vertically aligned.
What do you think? Would it make it look off when the tiles join the edge of the mirror? I'm assuming the designer is bringing this up because they will ahve to cut the tiles and we might end up with short pieces along either the edge of the wall or the mirror...

First of all, I think you've selected a lovely tile but I think that the orientation may truly depend on the space. If you are going to have small pieces of tile it might be best to redesign the placement/size of the mirror (making it larger if necessary to avoid small cuts).

Sometimes we will bring our mirror all the way to the countertop to avoid having small pieces. It has nothing to do with the extra work but with large format tiles it can often look strange- plus you have more grout to clean close to a high use area.

Do you have any pictures of your space? Elevation drawings?

These are all questions that you could ask your designer and builder to help you make the best decision: How big is the mirror? How large are your counters? How small will the cuts be? How large is the tile?

I am sorry but I have to disagree with your designer. You have to go brick pattern. It is the most current look and eliminates the long floor to ceiling grout joints. If you want, you can start your tile layout center of mirror location. All the best.

Agree with centerline. I have seen horror stories here on Houzz where tiles like that were lined up and they have lippage issues. Some manufacturers will only recommend that their tiles be laid in a brick pattern for that reason.

It's a matter of personal taste. You can go with the brick pattern. I don't see why not.

You are going to have short pieces which ever way you go. I think you are right and the brick layout will cut the monotony of the stacked tiles.

I think this picture is proof enough that the overall design will look fine. I agree, its a matter of personal taste and having it in a brick pattern will not destroy the look of the bathroom. You're the one who has to live in it, so ultimately its your decision. Either way would look nice.
