Many of our clients are "oaked out", but what it comes down to is that the wood species should be one that you love - and many DO love oak. You certainly can update your cabinets - in which case I suggest you go to a design showroom, look at the options available as far as door style, wood species and stain - chances are you will find something that will make your heart beat a little faster...that's a good sign...if you can check samples out, please do so and look at them under the light in your home - the stains may look different under your light versus the light at the showroom (often a much more direct, harsh light). Look at other options as well such as additions - if you have always thought a spice rack would be handy as a pull-out or in a drawer, there are options there, too. Ask many questions and see what happens. If nothing moves you and you decide to stay with your honey-oaks, a great and easy way to update the look may simply be to change the hardware!

I have honey oak cabinets and though I would love to paint or replace them itvus not economically feesible right now. So after seeing this photo, I painted my kitchen, Benjamin Moore's Homestead Green. It is such s beautiful color and really makes my cabinets look awesome. I have so many compliments when people come over. I also used the color through to the den.

most shades of green paint on the walls tend to tone down oak.
