That using the restroom is a refreshing experience. It smells nice, the towels are crisp and clean, the soap and lotion is inviting and pleasant. It is the one room almost ever guest will see and use, other than my kitchen and entryway...I want those areas tidy, smelling fresh, and organized. I want my home to project comfort and a welcoming warmness to all.

I hope they don't fall over anything from the renovating.

I just want my guests to feel comfortable and enjoy the decor that I have re purposed, I also go into great lengths to make the guest room comfortable with nice linens, books, and fresh towels. I love to prepare a great casual meal with yummy snacks and drinks,
I hope they enjoy and appreciate it... and hearing it would be fantastic!

I also want my guests to feel comfortable and cozy in my home and make sure the guest room is fresh and clean. BUT, the most compliments we get is from out outdoor living space. We live in Maine near the ocean but are surrounded by nearly 3 acres of woods so our patio feels like a small green island to many of our visitors. You sit there and can't see anything but the trees, flowers (we have gardens) and plenty of peace and quiet. We have 3 different seating areas with a firepit and people just gravitate toward it all.

Sounds so relaxing... we are on the opposite end of the spectrum in Florida, and over look the marsh with the ocean a mile away... I love casual coastal decor without the palm trees etc!!! Maine sounds very inviting this time of year!

yes michelle, June, July, August and even September are beautiful here in southern Maine. And I agree with your comment about coastal decor. We can't do palm trees here, but rocky and shells and beautiful ocean colors for walls and decor are in. Blues, grey's and white...gorgeous.

i could care less about what guests do or do not notice, my home is my own personal castle. I do, however, hope they feel comfortable. I hope they come to see ME, not my house!!

sorry but ick - guests shouldn't have to learn a new way to do their business (i.e. toilet convention) just because that is your "business"

We always have fresh flowers and vanilla candles throughout the house.

Not a fan of using a "Shared" sprayer. Unless there is a bucket of bleach sitting next to the commode to sanitize it after and before every use. I think I prefer a single use wet wipe.

I just had a visit with my daughter over the phone remembering her little son saying "Grandma has the most comfy bed ever!" and that led to me remembering my son's comment this summer while driving the 11 hour drive from his house to mine, that what kept him going was thinking of my comfy guest bed he would get to crash in when he arrived! Well I love having all of those I love rest well when they are in my home. That being said, would people agree with my friend Carol..." most guest and fish smell after 3-4 days anyway" Not sure who said it first she too, liked Gilda Radner SNL. Oh I think that was another discussion, but would love to hear people's thoughts on that subject too.

To nearlyclueleless, my mother-in-law will leave Wednesday after having been here since Sept. 3. Of course I love her, but...... I would love to have your little house. LOL

My smile. I brush for the occasion. Other than that, the decorations I put up. I've picked up crafting ideas that I hope will impress.

If the guests are overnight, I love it when they say the bed is THE most comfortable bed ever. It's the luxurious thread count sheets, goose down mattress topper and comforter. Linen spray of eucalyptus and a serene color scheme. They don't know why it's comfy..it just is. Guests often say our guest room is "romantic". But, it's just cozy. :)

I jut want my guests to say that they would much rather come to our house for dinner than go to the best restaurant! I LOVE cooking and entertaining out of doors in the gazebo and making it it look exotic with unusual plants, flowers and foliage. The house, guest bedroom and toilet (no bidet unfortunately) are nice but the garden is my passion. May it be summer all year long.

The one thing I love to do when my guests come to visit...is that I personalize their guest room just for them...allowing them privacy and a feeling of comfort in our home.
I keep notes on each of my family and friends of which guest room is their favorite, what firmness level of mattress they prefer, favorite cuisine, beverages, snacks, temperature of room, favorite flowers, etc. the prefer. I have thought of everything to make sure their stay is relaxing and the best sleep they have had in years. My guest rooms in my home have a different themes and feel. I have purchased four types of mattress offering different comfort levels, ranging from ultra plush to semi firm all with memory foam built in to the tops. So it is important that I remember who likes which space....Then by stocking the guest suite with their Favorite Snacks, Beverage's and amenities (like Hairdryers, ironing boards, toiletries, etc) along with Luxury Linens, Guest Robes, Cozy Slippers, Flat Screen TV's and their own Coffee & Tea Center.

My sister and I recently visited my brother and sister in law for his son's wedding in Mill Valley. She had gone on facebook and printed out pics of my new grandson and my sisters grands and had them framed beside our beds----I thought this was so special!!!!

I hope the people who visit me feel the warmth of my home. I hope it makes them feel peace, calm and welcome.

When someone sees my house for the first time.....most say," Karla...this is so you," Not sure how to take that.

I live in a neighborhood of homes built mostly from early 1900's through mid-century. I hope guests notice how livable old beauties can be remodeled and furnished in the home's era; maintaining it's original integrity, and still be very accommodating for today's family home dynamics.

Darla, never mind the sprayer, how about the shared towel to dry off with? Must be another ELEGANT EUROPEAN way of doing things, that we AMERICANS need to learn to EMULATE, but no thanks.

A'llure, your guestrooms sound very nice, and maybe even intimidating to your guests, unless you have the same type of friends who are able to provide the same.
Sounds like you have a Bed & Breakfast going on there.

I'm not sure? I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the bidet comment? Are we sharing towels? I'll bring paper. lol :) I hope they notice my good hair and my cooking. ;) And have a great time. :D

OUCH ;0(!!!

Until a few years ago I used to have a funhouse mirror in my entryway. The male guests and children usually loved it and would spend a few minutes clowning around in front of it. Most women would give it a pose or too as well. However, one rather prissy woman I know was mortified as she looked in it and scooted away as quickly as possible. I eventually sold it to a guy who said it would be a fantastic setup for a house of ill repute. Go figure...
