Suggestions for this eye sore.

This fire place stone sticks out about 8" from the wall. The hearth is about 16" high. Some of the stones stick out beyond the 8". It is a gas burning fireplace. Any thoughts? The room is a great room with grandmothers dinning set on one side and split by the family couches. French Provençal. Mahogany.

Quick reface this mess...Sorry! I don't mean to be mean...it just needs help fast! Just drywall over the top portion and take out the stone and then reface it with a flat surface like granite!

You can have a layer of cement "floated" over it by a tile installer and that will make it flush or level. Then you can add a nice cultured stone or tile and it will look beautiful! Don't freak out, it can be done! We've done it many times.

I'm going to say this very quietly ... I like it. Shhhhh!

But I wouldn't put too many bits of decoration there -- the lamp is perfect. Think of it as a very large abstract with a good sense of humour. I see a dog on a hill.

I think this is just added to the wall so take it out and start over no point in fiddling around with it.

Agree, just take it out and then build something that works with your furnishings. The stone in this fireplace is just too distracting.

Thank you for the suggestions. The stone is cemented in and the rock pieces are large and thick. Removing it would be a huge undertaking.

Can you just paint it one uniform color so it recedes?

Box it in with Sheetrock/ drywall . We did that over an old cement furnace in our kitchen renovation . Looks sooooooo much better.
