Since your couch is brown & beige sisal will look good, & blue accents will break the monotony.

The walls are Benjamin Moore Wheeling Neutral, there is a full wall of exposed brick and there is a fireplace wall with painted white built ins (you can see some behind the chair) that is getting a solid walnut top to it this week, the over mantel is antique mirror. Artwork on either side of the fireplace is a series of architectural prints matted in a parchment colour with distressed gray/brown/silvered frames. Attached is an accent painting for behind the Chairs. And another I am thinking about moving to this room.

Before I'd even read any of the posts, my first thought was "turquoise" and if you need even more pop you could try "tangerine"....as for the carpet it depends on how much "color" you are wanting in your room or "if" you are wanting it more subdued....lovely fabric by the way

I like what you have done so far. Navy blue is a hot color this year, and actually has been a favorite of mine forever. I can't tell what color your fabric is above this, but if may be close to navy. Before buying a sisal rug, make sure it is cleanable, especially from mustard and red wine. I would probably do a rug with navy, beige, and tan in a large graphic design. The sisal may also be too flat.

I like the idea of a sisal rug. for the pillows, I would definitely prefer turquoise over maroon but was thinking a contrasting navy+white or black+white in a bold print. love the layering of textiles and prints and would go for something bold and geometric, like a lattice print or diamond ikat. would definitely not do something as 'safe' as a solid. here are some options, which do include maroons, by the way, as well as some bolder colors: http://www.artfire.com/ext/shop/studio/sharonna/0/0/0/pillows

I like the turquise of the vase too. Can you take more pics of the room to show the areas you were describing above - exposed brick, etc. Your new chair upholstery looks great!

Here is a pic of the fireplace wall. Like I said earlier, walnut surfaces are being made for the cupboards on either side of the fireplace.

IMO, that green velvet fabric and trim will look totally out of place in this room.

That is one beautiful wall, but both the hunt board and the art are lost on it. Anyplace else those could go? The furniture also is awkward next to the stair. That wall would look great with nothing but art, art that contrasts more with the brick.

The hunt board stays... But the painting will be replaces with this once I get it framed. It's a 40" square picture from a fantastic artist in London.

HI -- I can see that you should just stay with the whites and creams and light tans -- the colors you have and just add textures in those colors . Maybe some light tan satin lumbar cushions for the chairs and some nubby soft white ones and a creamy/white throw or some faux furs . But keep the colors soft and muted and then colorful interesting Art .With décor items like lamps and vases etc.- they can be alabasters or marble or clear or crystal glass and old gold's and chrome or silver . And a natural fiber neutral colored rug .

You seem to have a very artistic side so let the art be the accent. You could keep it simple and sophisticated with the pillows or go very whimsical.

I noticed the vase color in the background and would incorporate that color as well as some neutral whites or creme, gray. If you wanted to pull out the straw color from the sofa that could be another option I would consider.

Hello sah2429, you have beautiful pieces to start with & you would only want to add to it.
Head carefully :) Let the original art add to the charm of your living & not just plain colour.
Definitely incorporate more texture to create a sophistication.

I like the idea of the zing of turquoise, and patterns that relate to, but don't try to be ikats. I like the look of sisal, but it depends on the use of the room. With kids, animals, and snacks in the room, I recommend something that has the look of a sisal, but that is a synthetic that would be more cleanable.

Thanks everyone... no kids, one dog, the room isn't used for TV but is used for entertaining. I have found a sisal that is actually made from wool. I've ordered samples.

Love the ikat fabric used - do you know the manufacturer? Would love to find some in a rust/orange color.
